Overview

This new Smartsitting family is looking for someone who can provide long-term afterschool care for their adorable and intelligent 5-year-old son. They would like someone who can keep up with his daily activities, maintain his routine, and foster his love for learning and exploring. The sitter must be someone who speaks Mandarin as their son attends a Mandarin immersion program, so someone who can put his Mandarin skills to practice during play and assist with his schoolwork is essential! If you are proactive, reliable, and would enjoy exploring Chinatown, eating noodles, and discussing all things transportation with a sweet 5-year-old boy, this job is for you! The position will ideally be five days a week after school (parents are open to some weekend support as well), but the family has some flexibility and wants to find the right fit so they are willing to adjust their needs to accommodate strong candidates. During the school season, the hours will be after school, 22.5 hours a week guarantee, with the potential for more hours in the summer. The rate is $30-35 an hour, plus PTO, sick time, Metrocard, and possible healthcare stipend. The family is also flexible with the start date, so if you can't start until the summer or fall, just note that in your application. The Ideal Sitter for this Job

Someone who speaks Mandarin. Someone who can keep up with him and be proactive when it comes to filling his days with meaningful activities and engagements. Someone who has experience with this age group. Someone who will be there for his social, emotional, and educational needs. Someone open to occasional travel about once or twice a year. International is not needed now, but it would be nice to have someone with a passport.

Schedule

During the school season, hours will be 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM on any 5 days of the week, for 22.5 hours guaranteed. During the summer the position has the potential to offer 25-30 hours a week for any 5 days of the week. Please note what 5 days you prefer in your application!

About the Children

Boy- 5 years old and will be in 1st grade in the fall. He has been attending a mandarin immersion program since he was two years old so he speaks fluent Mandarin. He has big energy, he likes to ride his scooter play at the park and he loves to ride his bike. He is very outgoing. He enjoys all things transportation. He enjoys going to Chinatown and eating noodles.

Responsibilities

As the sitter, during the school season, you would be picking up the little boy after school at 3:30PM and heading to his afterschool activities. You would fix him snacks and dinner and assist him in tidying up his play area (Magnetic tiles, blocks, etc.). The sitter will help him with his Mandarin homework, maintain his daily routines, explore NYC with him, and keep him engaged and entertained. In the summer, the schedule is a bit more flexible and has the potential for more hours, but with the same typical responsibilities.

Additional Information

The family needs someone who can speak Mandarin. Someone with a passport is a plus, but not required. Someone who is fully vaccinated and boosted if applicable. Please mention when you can start and what schedule is most ideal for you!
