The Ideal Sitter for this Job

This family is looking for a native or fluent Spanish speaker! Also important, this family has four children! So if you've worked with big families before and loved it or come from a big family yourself, this would be great! Beyond that, they're looking for a person who can fold into the culture of their family and be like an additional family member. They consider themselves "explorers", which they define as seeing the possibilities around them, rather than only focusing on the biggest or best. Mom also really values her children's autonomy and choice and being aligned here is crucial. With four kids, being good at negotiating is huge. Homework help with the 10-year-old is essential as well. Got something else going on in your life? Are you a student? Acrobat? Pro Swimmer? Artist? Mom LOVES that. She wants somebody on board who is looking forward to something else in life! Bring your passions to share with them and the kids!

Schedule

It's Monday through Friday, 2 P.M. to 7 P.M. or 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. The family is happy to guarantee 25 or 30 hours/week depending on what you need!

About the Children

Boy, 10 years old: Just introduced to video games, specifically Zelda. He is also encouraged to do non screen things like Dungeons and Dragons. He does lots of LARPing and has a lot of fantasy going on in the brain. Basketball on Mondays. Swimming. Big reader (all of them are!) Girl, 8 years old: Loves fantasy but a little different - SHE LOVES DRAGONS. She leans towards the superhero but with a dash of magic. Loves the Miraculous Ladybug series. Strong woman/girl characters, she’s into that. She’s observant of people’s emotions. She’s very kind and caring of those around her…she can sense when people aren’t feeling great. She has strong emotions Girl, 7 years old: emergent learner, she needs a lot of someone reading to her. She loves climbing, cartwheels, she is the most adept socially and good at making friends and meeting people. Boy, 5 years old: Ninja fan! He loves Power Ranges, Miraculous Lady Bug, and Ninjago. Mom might put him into marital arts. He also loves reading (which is kinda more like looking at pictures at the moment!) He loves to learn, it makes him feel really empowered.

Responsibilities

You'll arrive at their apartment and do an errand or two before heading with Mom to school for pick-up. All four kids go to the same school, but their releases are staggered so they usually hang at the park while waiting for the other kids. Then it's snack time! Mom usually brings an array of snacks and lets the kids choose what they want, since this is a great area where they can exercise their choice and autonomy. If there is an afterschool activity, you'll help bring a kiddo to it, but if not, it's not uncommon for them to stay at the park until 5:15 PM or so before scooting, walking or taking the bus home! Once at home, you'll help the kids put their stuff away, get started on homework, and help Mom with dinner plans. Dinner is at 6:15 PM then it's clean up. After that, older kids go back to homework, while the younger ones do quiet time. Then it's bath and bed!
