The Ideal Sitter for this Job
The ideal candidate is extremely reliable, professional, confident, adaptable, caring, firm but compassionate, patient, and experienced with children with learning differences. A proactive go-getter who gets along well with other professionals will be a perfect fit. Experience with teenagers and autism is a big plus.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 1:30 PM - 8:30 PM or 1:30 PM - 9:30 PM (35-40 hours/week).
About the Children
A bright, non-speaking autistic teenager with OCD-like behaviors. He requires a firm but patient presence, someone who believes in his intelligence and can be fully present during interactions.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for teaching a non-speaking teenage boy with autism one academic subject aligned with your skills or interests in a one-on-one setting. As part of a bigger team, the schedule is organized into two-hour "on" bursts for easier engagement, so you will have support throughout the day. You will also bring him to and from related services (speech, OT, PT, etc.) while providing communication support. Additionally, you will engage in recreational activities (games, walks, hikes, trampoline, board games), assist with basic meal preparation, support the family during meal and family times, and help him improve core life skills.
Additional Information
This is a unique opportunity to work with a family of educators offering training in innovative techniques. Related degrees in Education, Special Education, or Social Work are required for higher hourly pay. This is because wages would partially be covered by state. This role isn't isolated; you'll be part of a team dedicated to teen’s well-being, learning special education skills that can be transferable.
