The Ideal Sitter for this Job
The ideal nanny for this role is ready to support a family going through a difficult transition. There's some challenging behavior, so someone who is patient and empathetic, but can also hold firm boundaries when needed is essential. Experience with older kids, and with boys specifically would be helpful in this role as well. The ability to be a bit flexible with the hours, and occasionally come in a bit early when the boys are out of school for holidays, or when one of them is mildly ill is needed!
Schedule
Monday through Friday 10 AM to 6 PM With the flexibility to come a bit earlier on occasion, if the boys are out of school on a school holiday, or if one of them is out due to mild illness.
About the Children
Boy, 11 going on 12: Going into 6th grade. Needs to be encouraged to have a healthy self-care routine (meaning coming home from school and eating, resting, and decompressing from the day before doing his homework). He is very smart, but needs to be encouraged to do his extracurricular math problems. Boy, 7: Going into 2nd grade. Loves his older brother and follows his lead!
Responsibilities
The family is going through a difficult transition, so the biggest aim of this position is for someone to build a great relationship with the boys, and be there to care for them after school (and on full days when school is out too). You'll be working with a single Dad, and he's looking for an unflappable, calm, and experienced individual to work with them. However, while the boys are in school, it would also be great to get some household tasks out of the way, so that when the Dad comes home, he can focus on having a great night with his kids. Therefore, the day will start with some family assistant tasks! Examples might include kid laundry, making the kids' beds, and some meal prep. Generally, things to make Dad's life a bit easier while the kids are in school! School ends at 3:00, and at that time, you'll go get the kids and take them to any scheduled after-school activities. If there's a scheduled doctor's appointment or haircut for one of the boys that day, you'll take them there too! Once home, you'll make sure they have a snack and have some time to decompress before ensuring homework gets done. You'll make sure the space is tidy, and might give the kids dinner before you go. Above all else, the childcare in this role takes priority.
