PART-TIME: 2 kids, 8 & 10, in DUMBO

Overview

This creative, inquisitive, and trilingual family is looking for a fun and organized after-school nanny for their two awesome kids. They speak English, French, and Bulgarian at home and have had long-term relationships with previous nannies. They have two kids: one 10-year-old non-binary kiddo, who uses they/them pronouns, and one 8-year-old boy, who uses he/him pronouns. The crux of this position is picking up the kiddos at their school in Kips Bay, taking them to after-school activities and then back home to DUMBO. While they'd love to find a nanny with a car who can drive them, they're totally fine with you navigating the subway each day for this, and therefore, are looking for candidates that have been in New York City for at least a few years and can navigate the subway like a champ. Mom is pregnant with a third child so another full-time nanny will join your team in the coming year! It's $30 to $35/hour plus benefits for a 27.5 hour guarantee. Need more hours? Put it in your application. They're looking to get started ASAP, with a preferable start date of 9/3 or thereabouts so apply NOW.

The Ideal Sitter for this Job

As with most after-school positions, they're looking for active, energetic candidates. You've got to be somebody who can get the kids outside (not just say you can, but actually do it!). Important to this family is finding a kind person, a really passionate person, who clearly loves working with kids. You should have good boundaries, and the ability to be firm. Otherwise you'll get constant negotiations! These kids are sharp! Somebody who has stories to tell will do well also. Mom and Dad understand this role is really about logistics and a huge part of it will most likely be commuting long distances with the kids (unless you're driving them. That means, for their comfort, you have to be New York Savvy. Unfortunately somebody who just moved here won't work for this one. Also important: the name of the game is reliability! These are two working parents with incredibly demanding schedules. They will not be able to work around last minute cancellations or frequent call outs. You have to be there on-time, always, for school-pick-up. No exceptions. Finally, they're looking for somebody who can take initiative and trust their own decision making. It's okay to ask a few follow up questions, especially in the beginning. But ultimately, they're looking for a person who understand they're the boss while with the kids! They would prefer somebody who won't text them with too many questions.

Schedule

3:00 PM to 8:30 PM The family is happy to guarantee 27.5 hours/week Love this position but want more hours? Let us know what you need to make it work. Ability for date nights with notice is appreciated!

Responsibilities

You'll pick the kids up at school in Kips Bay and then take them to after-school activities. From there, you'll head back to D.U.M.B.O, wash out and sort their backpacks, do some meal prep and occasionally dinner. The kids are transitioning to a new school, so they expect an adjustment that might take a few weeks. The family doesn't do screens and do not have computers out at home. There are not really any household tasks with this job, but they are very tidy and would like your help keeping it that way, though they prefer you get the kids to clean up after themselves, rather than doing it for them.
