UPDATED: PART-TIME: 20 hours/week with 3 fun kids in Brooklyn Heights
Overview
This busy family is seeking an after-school superstar for their three children, ages 11, 7, and almost 5! The position runs through at least June, with the possibility of some summer hours or starting back up again next fall if it's a good fit. You'll pick the kids up from their school in Union Square and take them home via subway to Brooklyn Heights. You'll help with homework, take them to their weekly tennis lesson a few blocks away, and prep their dinner a couple of times per week. You'll mostly be with 2 children at a time, except for one day per week when you'll have all 3. Ideally, you'll stay one late night per week so Mom and Dad can have a date night! They're looking for a cool, calm, and collected nanny who is confident, can connect with the kids' different personalities, and is a seasoned NYC subway professional. It's $30 to $35/hour for 20 hours/week, plus some degree of paid time off, a MetroCard and some other possible benefits.
The Ideal Sitter for this Job
Since this position requires daily subway commuting, you should be very familiar with the subway and confident getting around the city and taking kids on public transit. The youngest one is sensitive and more reserved, and in a difficult moment, so calm and patience with him are a must (he's having a tougher time with his new school transition). Confident but calm types will do super well here, as will strong but kind personalities. The kids do well with nannies who bring the energy down (not up!) and who can handle and set boundaries. Their middle daughter has a very charismatic but strong-willed personality, and somebody who can make sure they're also engaging with the younger kiddo, not just her, is essential here.
Schedule
Monday through Friday 2:45 PM to 6:45 PM The family is happy to guarantee 20 hours/week. Flexibility to help with days off from school and work a late date night once a week would be appreciated. Preference is for the late night to be on Thursday, but they're open to other days as well.
About the Children
11 years old, boy: In sixth grade. He’s easy-going and mature. He’s very serious about music and has several music activities in the afternoon. He’s generally very easy to care for but can sometimes clash with his younger sister. Overall, he’s pretty easygoing, and he and his little brother get along really well. One day per week, you'll be with both of the boys, which will be fun and easy! 7 years old, girl: In second grade. She’s a dynamo and always thinks she’s in charge. She’s the leader in many situations and believes she’s running the world (and they hope one day she does!). However, she can take over quickly and was born strong-willed and spirited. About to turn 5, boy: He’s in pre-K and just started at a new school. He’s the more reserved, shy kid. Very sweet but having some tough transition moments.
Responsibilities
You'll pick two kids up at their school in Union Square and then head back to Brooklyn Heights on the 4 or 5 train. The kids are pretty fried at the end of the day, especially the little guy, so when you get home, it will mostly be about setting up quiet activities and helping them with homework, especially for the 7-year-old when she's there. You'll spend most days with the 4-year-old boy since he still needs the most help. You'll also help with dinner prep a couple nights per week. Twice weekly, the older kids go to tennis nearby in Brooklyn Heights and run around with their friends in the building. One night per week, Mom and Dad would like to head out on a date night. They have a preference for Thursdays but are open!
Additional Information
They’re looking for at least one to two years of solid after-school experience. Candidates with experience caring for multiples, especially school-aged kids, can ask for a higher rate. The position runs through at least June but could go longer for the right candidate.
