WEEKEND NANNY: 2 kids in Downtown Brooklyn!

Overview

This returning SmartFamily is looking for a weekend nanny to care for their two children, 9 and 11. They're looking for someone to come on Friday evenings, and then full days on Saturday and Sunday. Experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum is ideal however not required, as their 11-year-old boy is on the Autism Spectrum. The family is looking for someone patient and adaptable who loves bonding with the kids in their care, connecting on their interests, and building great long-term relationships. They'd love to find someone long-term who doesn't have too heavy of a load on the weekdays, to ensure there's lots of energy left for this weekend job! It's $30 to $35/hour and the family is happy to guarantee 23.5-24 hours per week.

The Ideal Sitter for this Job

Someone safety-conscious is #1 for this role. One example of this might be to always ensure that the doors in the house are closed and locked, especially if you're there on a rare overnight (occasional overnights, with notice, are helpful but not required for this role) to ensure that the older boy stays safe. Ideally, they’d like someone with experience working with kids on the Autism Spectrum, but it’s not required. Otherwise, you're a super loving caregiver who genuinely enjoys spending time with the children in your care. The ideal candidate is very responsible, flexible, and dependable. They go away to East Hampton for the summer, from the end of June to the beginning of September. It would be great if you can go with them, and they have accommodations to live in for the weekends, but it’s not required. If you don't travel with them, the position is of course then limited to the school year.

Schedule

Friday Nights: 5:00 or 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, with the flexibility to stay later on occasion. Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

About the Children

Boy, 11: He's on the Autism Spectrum. Super social and affectionate! He loves going on long walks, loves movies, and playing on his iPad. This guy has a lot of energy and loves to engage with the people he's around. He's really tall for his age, and is very physically active! Girl, 9: She's super into art and sports and she loves fashion.

Responsibilities

You'll start with covering Friday nights, likely from around 5 or 5:30 to 9:00! However, if they're out a little later, they need someone with the flexibility to stay later if needed. On Saturday, you'll help take them to their activities. For example, the boy has swimming on Saturday mornings, and the girl has soccer in the afternoons. During downtime, you'll engage with them, and you might plan something fun to do together. The boy loves going on long walks and would love for you to go with him! He needs to be reminded to go to the bathroom and might need you to take him. You'll help maintain the kids' spaces as well (especially the boy's) during the time you're there, help out with some other regular household tasks, and make sure things stay tidy. The parents are looking for someone comfortable being with the whole family too, as the nanny will sometimes go with all of them to activities or out to a meal together. The ability for this nanny to help with overnights is a great to have, but aren't a dealbreaker.
