PART-TIME: 3 School-Aged Children on the UWS!
Overview
This wonderful new SmartFamily just relocated to the UWS from London, and we adore them already! They have three children--9, 11, & 12---and are looking for a calm, communicative, responsible caregiver to join their team and support them during this big transition and beyond. Mom is looking for 25 hours/week of afterschool support, Monday-Friday, through mid January. In January, Dad joins the family from the UK, and the position will shift to 20 hours / week. It’s $35 to $40/hour, plus PTO, Sick Time, and a MetroCard. They are looking to bring someone on ASAP, so apply today!
The Ideal Sitter for this Job
This family would love someone who can bring a calm, focused energy into the home. They value communication, transparency, but most of all they are looking for someone who has a strong connection to the kids. They’d really love a caregiver who can make a long-term commitment, and are willing to continue employment and regular hours through the summer (with paid time off) for the right candidate. And as a bonus: someone who has a great knowledge of NYC has the amazing opportunity to help this wonderful family fall in love with their new home!
Schedule
Monday through Friday 2 PM to 7 PM This will be the core schedule through mid-January. In mid-January, the schedule will switch to: Monday through Friday 2:30 to 6:30 pm Occasional flexibility to stay later would be wonderful! The family is happy to guarantee 20 hours/week.
About the Children
Girl, 12: She is incredibly responsible and self-aware for her age, and has been great and caring with her little brothers during this big transition. She’s a competitive swimmer (you’ll be helping with swim drop offs) and martial artist. All three kids still study with their martial arts instructor in the UK virtually! She loves school, and mom has been giving her extra work and study materials to keep her feeling challenged as she switches to a new curriculum here in the States. Big bonus points with her if you speak French–she’s excited to continue her French studies while in the US! Boy, 11: He’s a sweet and sensitive kiddo. He might take a little while to warm up, but will bond quickly with a caregiver that he respects and admires. He in particular has been leaning on martial arts during this time of transition–he trains with his teacher 3x per week! Keeping him focused with homework will be an important part of your job with this guy. A gentle touch is best–mom will often co-work next to him while he’s finishing homework, just to make sure he’s staying on task. He loves video games, reading, and will start swimming in December. Boy, 9: This fourth grader is a gentle soul. He loves gardening, collecting seeds, watering plants— everything nature related. He also loves board games! For him, missing their big back yard in the UK has been the toughest part of moving to NYC so far. Luckily, Central Park is just a few blocks away!
Responsibilities
School pickup is at 2:40, but mom would love it if–at the beginning–you could arrive at 2 PM to do some light prep for the kids. This might look like meal prep, folding their laundry, organizing their rooms etc. After pickup, you will take all three kids home and make sure homework gets done. On days when there are after school activities, you will take the kids to those as well (usually just one kid–mom is comfy leaving two home alone for short periods of time). On days they don’t have after school, mom has been planning structured time for them. For example, on Mondays and Wednesdays they spend time in Central Park, Tuesdays they go to the library, etc. Around 6 PM or so, you will get dinner ready (usually mom will have prepped something, but feeling comfy cooking is a plus!). Then mom, (or starting mid-January, dad) will be home!
Additional Information
Ability to make a long-term commitment is deeply valued by this family. They are willing to discuss keeping hours through the summer, with paid vacation time, for the right candidate.
