UPDATED HOURS: PART-TIME: Two girls, 6 and 3, in Park Slope!
Overview
Looking for a part-time position in the afternoons? Have experience with two active school-aged girls? Do you LOVE Hide and Seek? This is the job for you! A wonderful returning Smart Family that we absolutely adore is looking for a new addition to their team! Their long-time Smart Sitter is transitioning on after almost four years with the family. While this will definitely be a tender time of transition for the girls, the family is really excited to begin to grow and nurture a relationship with another wonderful caregiver. They're looking for help handling school pick-ups, activities, and dinner and bedtime four afternoons a week. They would also love a bit of support around the house (light tidying and meal prepping for their two picky eaters), though they have a housekeeper. Mom will be home much of the time, so this is a team-work position, where you two will often tag-team support between the two girls. They are looking for someone who has experience with siblings, especially the stickier bits where conflict can arise--someone who can regulate moods and conflict in a kind, calm, and loving way. Someone who can balance the fun, play, and creative activities with calm and warm energy and patience. Open communication is really important to mom and dad. The family also has a very sweet, very loving dog. There are no pet responsibilities, but loving big dogs (a sweet golden retriever!) is essential. Ability to drive and openness to traveling with the family is not required, but would be a bonus. The rate for this role is $30-35/hour gross for 16 hours/week guaranteed. Flexibility to stay later (with notice) for an occasional date night would be great. They will offer PTO and Sick Time. The family is looking to begin transitioning the new sitter into the role in mid-February, so apply today!
The Ideal Sitter for this Job
The girls do well with calm, kind, grounded energy. Mom and dad really value someone adaptable and communicative--their current sitter has been with them through many big transitions and milestones, and they've really appreciated the way the relationship has grown and evolved. Someone who can help the girls with their own growing milestones would be great--ie, their current sitter is working with the oldest right now on self-regulation and staying calm while they play cards, helping her deal with little things that come up (like losing at Go-Fish) that might feel a little challenging. Someone with experience helping kiddos self-regulate will do really well. If you love to be part of a team, having big imaginative playtime, and forming long-lasting relationships with your families, this job is for you!
Schedule
Monday-Thursday 4pm-8pm Friday (optional, if candidates would prefer more hours) 2:30 pm - 6:30 PM Possibility to add Friday hours for the right fit. Flexibility to stay later on occasion, or come in on school holidays, would be great.
About the Children
Girl, 6.5: She loves to draw and write stories. She's really into playing cards right now, and she and their current sitter are working on being a good sport and having fun--though mom shared their current nanny knows when to let her bend the rules a little :) She loves creative play, having dance parties, making crafts, and LOVES candy (so knowing how to set loving boundaries is important!). Currently really into Hide and Seek, so someone willing to jump right in and actively engage the girls will be a great fit. Girl, 3.5: Their youngest loves imaginative play, working with her hands, and takes direction really well. She's a great listener. She's really smart, and incredibly emotionally aware. She adores her big sister, but lately has been very much coming into her own, which has been really beautiful to witness! Someone who can encourage her independent spirit, while making sure she still feels safe and supported, will do great!
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of this role are helping out with the after-school routine and keeping both girls engaged! You will often tag team with mom for dinner, bed, and bath-time. Mom might put the little one down while you play cards with the 6.5 year old. Or maybe mom picks up the girls from after-school activities while you prep a light dinner. Team work and open communication is key here! Both girls are highly creative, imaginative kids, so an active nanny who is ready to jump right in is important. Someone with experience helping little gals through transitions and big feelings is important, especially since they will be saying goodbye to their longtime sitter soon. Mom and dad would love someone to stay late for a date-night on occasion, with notice. Ability to drive and willingness to travel is helpful, but not required.
