PART-TIME, AFTER-SCHOOL: 3 School-Aged Children on the UWS!
Overview
This Smart Family just relocated to the UWS from London. They're mostly unpacked now but there are a few boxes in their midst! They have three truly awesome kids, two boys 9, 11 and one girl, 13. They are all very sweet and form strong connections with their caregivers. The boys do have a lot of energy, and require more attention. The girl is pretty self sufficient but still needs some supervision and companionship. Mom works primarily out of the home. Dad is home most of the time, but keeps to himself, and will be in the parents' bedroom most of the time that you are there. They looking for a calm, communicative, responsible caregiver to join their team and support them during this big transition and beyond! It’s $35 to $40/hour, plus PTO, Sick Time, and a MetroCard. They are looking to bring someone on ASAP, so apply today! The position lasts at least through June, but ideally will go on much longer. They need somebody in the after-school hours, but that also has flexibility to work around school holidays as well and has the ability to occasionally flex up and down with reason, as needed, and with advance notice
The Ideal Sitter for this Job
The ideal sitter will possess a lot of patience and an understanding that the family is in a big transition phase! Somebody who is looking to be a support system for the kids and have their best interest at heart. The kids form deep attachments to their caregivers and they'll prioritize candidates that can work with them for a long while (provided it's a good fit for everyone!). Experience coming up games for school aged children and in general, an appreciation for this age would be great! Also, as siblings do, there can sometimes be conflict that erupts. If you have experience with multiples and know how to redirect everybody's attention, you'll be a pro at this!
Schedule
Monday : 2:30 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday: 2:30 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday: 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM Thursday & Friday: 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM The family is happy to guarantee 25 hours/week. They do need help on days off from school and holiday and general flexibility is appreciated throughout the week, with advanced notice.
About the Children
Girl, 13: She is incredibly responsible and self-aware for her age, and has been great and caring with her little brothers during this big transition. She’s a competitive swimmer (you’ll be helping with swim drop offs) and martial artist. All three kids still study with their martial arts instructor in the UK virtually! She loves school, and mom has been giving her extra work and study materials to keep her feeling challenged as she switches to a new curriculum here in the States. Big bonus points with her if you speak French–she’s excited to continue her French studies while in the US! Boy, 11: He’s a sweet and sensitive kiddo. He might take a little while to warm up, but will bond quickly with a caregiver that he respects and admires. He in particular has been leaning on martial arts during this time of transition–he trains with his teacher 3x per week! Keeping him focused with homework will be an important part of your job with this guy. A gentle touch is best–mom will often co-work next to him while he’s finishing homework, just to make sure he’s staying on task. He loves video games, reading, and will start swimming in December. Boy, 9: This fourth grader is a gentle soul. He loves gardening, collecting seeds, watering plants— everything nature related. He also loves board games! For him, missing their big back yard in the UK has been the toughest part of moving to NYC so far. Luckily, Central Park is just a few blocks away!
Responsibilities
School pickup is at 2:40, but mom would love it if you can arrive at 2:30 PM, so you're there early. After pickup, you will take all three kids home and make sure homework gets done. On days when there are after school activities, you will take the kids to those as well (usually just one kid–mom is comfy leaving two home alone for short periods of time). On days they don’t have after school, mom has been planning structured time for them. The kids have swimming class early on in the week. Setting up play dates for them is encouraged! Around 6 PM or so, you will get dinner ready (usually mom will have prepped something, but feel free cooking if that's your thing). Then mom comes home and takes over!
