PART-TIME: Sweet one-year-old girl on the Lower East Side!

Overview

We have a lovely new Smart Family, looking for a warm, active caregiver to hang out with their super smart, loving one year old girl. The family is prioritizing warmth and trust. Someone who can be a gentle and fun presence for their little one is key–she is soaring past developmental milestones, is already walking, and said her first word at 8 months! So having ample baby AND toddler experience is a must, as this little girl is growing so fast. They would love someone who has an understanding of Montessori or Reggio Emilia pedagogical approach. Your days will be spent keeping her on routines with naps and meals, taking her to classes in Union Square or Tribeca, and engaging her in active, safe play. Mom will be working from home so willingness to collaborate, and also ability to redirect the little one if she wants to spend mama-time during working hours is important. If you’re a Spanish or Italian speaker, that’s great! But they’d prioritize Montessori-knowledge over a multilingual approach. The family would love to begin with their new caregiver in early March, so interviews and trials will begin ASAP. If you are energetic, loving, and hands-on…this position could be for you! Apply today. The family is offering $33-$35 / week ($891-$945 gross, paid on the books) for a guaranteed 27 hours/week, PTO, Sick Time, Metro Card

The Ideal Sitter for this Job

Mom and dad shared that their little girl is truly a special person. She forms deep bonds with caregivers and loves to be around people. Therefore, a nanny who will support her curiosity and effervescence is key. They want someone who will treat her with respect, like the person she is! Someone incredibly engaging, active, energetic, will be a great fit. Because this one year old is so active herself, they want someone who will be incredibly attentive to ensure she stays safe. They’d love to form a long-term relationship with someone who will fold into their family unit as a teammate for mom, dad, and the little one! Extensive baby and toddler experience required, major bonus points if you have Montessori or Reggio Emilia experience!

Schedule

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8 am - 6 pm This is the core schedule, with some occasional flexibility for date nights etc.

About the Children

Girl, one year: This little girl is one going on twenty-one! In all seriousness, her developmental milestones place her more behaviorally like an eighteen month-old than a baby. Her parents shared that she is brilliant, kind and engaging. She started walking at seven months, and talking at 8 months, and already has a sense of humor! She loves books -- the first thing she says every morning when she wakes up is "Book, Mama" and points to her very full bookshelves. She also loves music, and taking her to music and gymnastics classes will be part of your routine. She has been on a one-nap schedule for a few months now, and eats 3 meals and one snack per day (she is gluten-free). Cat loves new people and dogs and is extremely confident and communicative–which makes taking care of her a breeze! She is very clear and direct about her needs.

Responsibilities

Mom and dad need someone who will schedule play dates, take her to classes and continue their approach of loving and supportive parenting (rooted in Montessori–encouraging independent learning and play). You will support her day to day routines, keeping her on schedule, and taking her to classes in Union Square or Tribeca. You might also walk to a local park or the library, especially once the weather is nicer, to spend time there. This little girl loves nature and being outside.
